Open AI (Artificial Intelligence) is making a splash in the news again. Why should you care? If you’re hiring for your dental practice, you might want to check out ChatGPT and how it can help you simplify your job recruiting journey.

What is ChatGPT? It is a new Chatbot created by OpenAI that’s programmed to connect with users conversationally. You can liken it to having coffee with a colleague and discussing a new process in the office. While it’s no replacement for human interaction, it can offer a great starting point for promoting your practice for recruiting purposes.

ChatGPT can be used to help you or your hiring manager write a detailed job description. But don’t rely on it to do all the work. Follow these 5 steps to help with writing a compelling job description that really sells your practice and helps attract candidates for your open position.

Where do you begin?

By engaging in a job description conversation with this new AI buddy. Before you start typing away in the usual Google search fashion, know that ChatGPT is looking for a natural tone to your inquiry. First, you must prime it to ensure you are getting expert knowledge on whatever topic you are looking into. Then ask your question like you’d ask a colleague:

“What are the top [dental hygienist, dental assisting…] skills?”

ChatGPT will get to work creating a litany of top skills while including an introduction and conclusion. You’ll see your job description unfold in basic essay or bullet format — all sourced by an algorithm. Now’s not the time to be complacent, however. ChatGPT is great for getting started, but it is a bot, after all, and should not replace your human touch.

Ready to start? We’ve outlined the prompts for you to follow:

First, prime the Chatbot with the following prompt (you can copy-paste this directly into the text box):

  • I want you to act as an expert in recruiting. You have all the information about anything to do with recruiting in dentistry. I will ask you questions about different topics within recruiting in dentistry and you will provide me with clear, concise, and accurate information. Ensure that you only respond back with answers that you are fully confident in. Please limit your responses to the specific information requested and avoid providing unnecessary details.

Next, ask the Chatbot to create your job description with the prompt below. Be sure to fill in and customize the specifics in the highlighted sections for your specific needs:

  • Write a 10-sentence job description for a [Insert your job title], using the following job keywords. Job keywords: [Insert education level], licensure (if needed), continuing education, skills, and (any other needed keywords). Be sure to include any responsibilities associated with a [Insert job title].

Note: Be sure to customize the above prompt as needed, and remove any unnecessary keywords when you copy-paste. Also, this prompt will create the job description in an essay format. To switch to a bullet format just add “in a bulleted format” after “Write a 10-sentence Job description”

Here is an example of a Dental Hygienist Job Description Prompt:
  • Write a 10-sentence job description for hiring a dental hygienist, using the following job keywords. Job keywords: Bachelor’s or master’s degree, licensure, continuing education, and skills. Be sure to include any responsibilities associated with a Registered Dental Hygienist role. The job description needs to have the duties and responsibilities in a bulleted format, and qualifications in a text format.

Here is the result:

Once you have your basic job description in place, you’ll want to get to work showcasing your practice as the place to work. You can do so by focusing on these top five description additions that help make your business stand out.

1. Keep it simple

If your job ad and application are too complex and confusing to navigate, prospects will not apply and will seek employment elsewhere. They’ll never know how great your practice and team are.

2. Highlight your practice culture early and often

Does everyone have ownership in the processes? Are you open to trying new things to improve the practice? Do you encourage continuing education? If yes to anything that might attract top talent, tell them

3. Why your practice?

Competition is fierce, and while things have balanced out a bit between an employer market vs. a job seeker one, you have to stand out. What makes your practice different, unique, fun, and rewarding?

4. Show off Your perks

DentalPost’s 2023 Dental Salary Report made it clear that benefits and flexibility can help tip the scale when it comes to job satisfaction. Do you offer a flexible schedule? Are bonuses common for your team? Any extra perks you can offer your team go a long way in attracting A-players and keeping them.

5. Ask your team for input

It’s easy to get caught up in the fine details after you’ve created a solid foundation using a Chatbot for help. Asking your team to review the description and provide feedback is critical to ensure you’re putting your best foot forward. They’ll also be working with this person and can add insight you may be removed from.

The job market is challenging, with no end in sight. Equipping yourself with tools to help get you started and sticking with recruiting best practices will help lure in the best talent. And it will make your practice the only option in town.
