Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) Job Description: Certified Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) who a skilled dental professional that posses the the perform both routine and advanced clinical duties to assist dentists in delivering high-quality patient care. The EFDA will work under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist and be responsible for a broader range of tasks compared to traditional dental assistants, including more complex and invasive procedures. Key Responsibilities and Duties: 1. **Patient Preparation:** - Prepare patients for dental procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and informed about the process. - Review and update patient medical history and records. 2. **Clinical Assistance:** - Assist the dentist during a variety of procedures, including fillings, crowns, and extractions. - Hand instruments and materials to the dentist as needed. 3. **Expanded Clinical Functions:** - Place and shape dental fillings, including amalgam and composite materials. - Apply dental sealants and fluoride treatments. - Perform coronal polishing and tooth whitening procedures. - Take, pour, and trim impressions for dental restorations or prosthetics. - Fabricate temporary crowns and bridges. 4. **Radiographic Duties:** - Take and develop dental X-rays. - Ensure proper safety protocols for patients and staff during radiographic procedures. 5. **Instrument Sterilization:** - Sterilize and organize dental instruments and equipment. - Ensure the treatment room is properly cleaned and set up for the next patient. 6. **Patient Education:** - Provide patients with instructions on post-operative care and general oral hygiene practices. - Explain upcoming procedures and address any patient concerns. 7. **Administrative Tasks:** - Schedule appointments, maintain patient records, and manage billing when necessary. - Order and maintain inventory of dental supplies. 8. **Compliance and Safety:** - Adhere to all OSHA and HIPAA regulations. - Maintain a safe and compliant working environment. ### Qualifications: - Completion of an accredited dental assistant program. - Certification as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA). - CPR and first aid certification. - Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
