Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery is looking for an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant to join our practice. Our culture fosters family, purposeful work, individual accountability, and execution. We're looking for a motivated self-starter interested in working in a fast-past and dynamic oral surgery environment to help promote exceptional patient service. The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant performs patient care activities as a member of the surgical team and will also assist with sterilization of instruments and equipment. Office-based surgery experience preferred. If you are interested in joining our team here are the essential functions of the role:
· Greet & seat patients.
· Capture digital X-rays and CT scans.
· Update patient medications and allergies at each patient encounter.
· Assist with chart documentation during evaluations and post-operative appointments.
· Set up for non-sterile & sterile procedures with appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies.
· Prepare patient for appropriate procedure/exam.
· Assist surgeon during surgical procedures.
· Circulates during surgical procedures, completing necessary paperwork.
· Recover patients and review post-op instructions with patient and/or responsibility party.
· Maintains sterilization and clinical logs.
· Restocks supplies as needed.
Employment Qualifications
· Oral and Maxillofacial surgery experience preferred
· Exceptional customer service skills
· Familiar with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery
· Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· CPR certification preferred
· Radiology certification preferred

Applying sealants and fluorides: Protecting teeth with these treatments
Taking and developing x-rays: Reviewing them for signs of disease
Educating patients: Teaching proper oral hygiene techniques, such as brushing and flossing
Documenting care: Recording patient care and treatment plans
Screening patients: Reviewing dental history and recommending care to improve oral health
At Virginia Family Dentistry, our hygienists are held to a high-quality standard in all aspects of dental care. They are all team players, manage time efficiently, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Hygienist role will effectively deliver care in a way that ensures patient satisfaction and improves oral health. The hygienist provides ongoing care through education, treatment, reinforcement of doctor’s treatment plans, and by diligently following Virginia Family Dentistry’s Standard of Care. Although our hygienists manage an efficient and productive schedule, Virginia Family Dentistry does not ask Hygienists to sell specific products to patients.
