Key responsibilities of an EFDA may include: Patient care: Preparing patients for procedures, ensuring comfort, reviewing medical history, and providing post-treatment instructions. Chairside assistance: Setting up and breaking down operatories, passing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a sterile field during dental procedures. Restorative procedures: Placing temporary fillings, applying matrix bands, cleaning debris from cavities, and assisting with final adjustments to fillings. Preventive care: Applying topical fluoride, placing sealants, and performing coronal polishing. Radiography: Taking dental x-rays Impression taking: Taking alginate impressions for casts and models Infection control: Maintaining sterilization protocols and following safety guidelines Important points about an EFDA role: Advanced training: To become an EFDA, dental assistants must complete additional training and pass a state-administered exam.
