Description

Position Summary: The Dental Hygienist at Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center will work closely with the dentist to meet the oral health needs of patients of the clinic. The Dental Hygienist will be responsible for the direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services in a community health center setting. Duties and Responsibilities: Patient screening procedures such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting, taking blood pressure and pulse Take and develop dental x-rays; Remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth Apply preventive materials to the teeth (sealants and fluorides); Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling); Counsel patients on good nutrition and its impact on oral health; Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with OSHA procedures, rules and regulations. Keep equipment and work area clean; Utilize appropriate sanitation methods. After each treatment, sterilize the dental unit and instruments used and replace instruments prior to the next patient treatment; dispose properly of contaminated or bio-hazardous waste/materials. Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures including, but not limited to, wearing protective barriers such as gloves, scrubs and eye wear; Notify Dentist and Administrative Assistant of equipment failure or general safety concerns; Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending continuing education: educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, etc.; Understand and abide by HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality; Obtain and maintain Radiographic Certification recognized by the Georgia Board of Dentistry; Be accountable for outstanding customer service to all external & internal contacts; Take initiative & action to respond, resolve & follow up regarding customer service needs in a timely manner; Perform office housekeeping as required; Must be comfortable with all ages of patients Work as team with dental staff/volunteers and all Good Samaritan staff/volunteers; Adhere to Good Samaritan mission, policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination will be performed on a repetitive basis. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize phones, computers, and copiers is required. Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required. Qualifications: • Diploma from an accredited school of Dental Hygiene in the State of Georgia • Requires a comprehensive knowledge of oral hygiene in outpatient settings. • Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern oral hygiene and periodontal patient care is necessary. Licensure and Credentials: • Unrestricted license to practice Oral Hygiene in the State of Georgia • Maintain CPR Certification Reports To: Dentist
