Job Title: Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) Job Summary: A Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) is responsible for cleaning teeth, examining patients' oral health, providing preventive care, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices. RDHs work closely with dentists to help diagnose and treat oral diseases, perform cleanings, and ensure patients maintain optimal oral health. Key Responsibilities: Performing Dental Cleanings and Preventive Care: Clean teeth by removing plaque, tartar, and stains through scaling and polishing. Apply fluoride treatments and sealants to protect against cavities. Take and develop dental X-rays to assist in diagnosis. Assess the patient's overall oral health and identify potential concerns such as cavities, gum disease, or oral cancer. Examinations and Patient Assessments: Conduct thorough examinations of the gums, teeth, and oral tissues to identify signs of disease or abnormalities. Measure and record patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse. Perform periodontal charting and assess gum health, including probing for pocket depths. Patient Education and Counseling: Educate patients about oral hygiene techniques such as proper brushing, flossing, and the use of mouth rinses. Provide instructions on diet, lifestyle changes, and oral care habits that prevent dental issues. Answer patient questions regarding treatment options and preventive care. Collaborating with Dentists: Assist dentists with patient care as needed during exams or treatments. Provide the dentist with thorough reports about the patient's oral health and medical history. Educate patients about the importance of regular check-ups and follow-up visits. Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate patient records, including documenting treatment plans, procedures, and patient progress. Prepare treatment areas, ensuring they are sterilized and organized for patient care. Schedule patient appointments and manage the office schedule. Infection Control and Safety: Follow strict infection control protocols to ensure patient safety. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment between patient visits. Adhere to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) standards for safety and patient confidentiality. Required Skills and Qualifications: Education: Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program. Licensing/Certification: Active RDH license in the state of Texas Experience: Previous experience in a dental practice is often preferred, but new graduates may also apply. Technical Skills: Proficient in dental hygiene tools, X-ray equipment, and Dentrix Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain oral health practices to patients and collaborate effectively with dental teams. Attention to Detail: Ability to perform detailed assessments and document findings accurately. Physical Stamina: The ability to stand/sit for long periods and perform manual tasks during procedures. Working Conditions: Starting with 2 days a week will increase as office gets more patients. We accept PPO plans only!
